Beavers Plagued by Scoring Slump Against Cowley - Cameron Cox
[Arkansas City, KS-Dec 10th, 2025] - Men's Basketball was on the road against Cowley for a mid season conference game. The Beavers were searching for their first conference win currently on a 7 game losing streak. The Beavers would play an ultra competitive game in the first half on Wednesday night but would go cold in the second half falling 86-68.
Game Recap:
Pratt (3-9), (0-7) started off the first half with an early lead, jumping out to a 5-0 lead after Galvin Luketa nailed a three early and Seydina Faye connected for a layup. Cowley (10-2), (5-1) would answer with a few buckets of their own making it a 5-4 game early on. The Beavers and the Tigers then traded shots notching the score even at 11-11 with 7 minutes having passed in the first half.
The following four minutes were similar with both teams taking shots at each other as Pratt took a slight 16-15 lead. With 8:00 left in the first half the Tigers took their first lead of the game after a three pointer connected to make the score 22-20 in their favor.
Justin Robinson would retake the Beaver lead after going 3/3 at the free throw line. Cowley then went on a small run to make the score 30-25. The Beavers did not concede going on a 7-0 run to make the score 32-30. The Beavers would hold on to a small lead until 1:08 on the clock where Cowley would retake the lead 38-37. Cowley would knock in a few free throws to end the half as the Beavers narrowly trailed by just three points 40-37.
Despite trailing the Beavers shot an efficient 14-26 (53.6%) from the field in the first half. The beavers were also solid from beyond the arc shooting 3-7 (42.9%) from three. Cowley shot similar splits going 14-27 (51.9%) from the field and 2-7 (28.6%) from deep. Justin Robinson led the Beavers in scoring at the break with 12 points on an extremely efficient 75% field goal percentage. Robinson was complemented by Hunter Vaughn, AJ Akot and Seydina Faye all scoring 5+ points in the half.
The early second half saw the Beavers get the first points as Faye knocked in a free throw to make the score 40-38. Cowley answered with a three point bucket but the Beavers took the ball to the basket as Izeyah Harris converted a dunk. Cowley didn't let Harris dunk bring them down as they proceeded on a 7-0 run to make the score 50-40. The game would get more and more out of reach for the beavers from this point on. After 5 minutes of the second half the score was 56-42 in Cowley's favor with all the momentum on their side.
The following five minutes looked worse for the beavers scoring just 6 points over a 5 minute span. The Tigers however dominated this next 5 minute stretch defensively and offensively. At the 10 minute mark the Beavers trailed by 20 points despite just 8 minutes ago trailing by 3 points. The Beavers were outmatched for the remainder of the second half, never making the game competitive after losing the lead early in the second half. The Beavers would drop their seventh straight conference loss to Cowley on Wednesday night losing 86-68.
