Faye posts double-double as GCC pulls away down the stretch

GARDEN CITY, Kan. – Seydina Faye posted 20 points and 11 rebounds to help pace the Pratt Community College Men's Basketball team on the road at Garden City Community College on Saturday. In the back-and-forth affair, the Broncbusters were able to pull away late to claim the 85-75 victory.

Faye tied for a game-high 20 points with teammate Hunter Vaughn. Faye went 8-14 from the field, while adding his 11 rebounds. Vaughn went 6-15 from the field, including a 4-9 effort from downtown, for his 20 points.

PCC (3-4, 0-2) went 26-78 (33.3) from the field, 8-27 (29.6) from three and 15-26 (57.7) at the foul line. GCC (7-1, 2-0) countered going 29-59 (49.2) from the field, 10-28 (35.7) from three and 17-22 (77.3) at the foul line. PCC held the slight edge in points off turnovers (27-20) and total rebounds (41-38).

The Broncbusters came out hot to start opening on a 6-0 run. Faye broke the seal for the Beavers nearly four minutes in with a layup. After GCC stretched the lead by as many as nine, a Scottie Guillory three-pointer had the Beavers to within three at 17-14 near the midway point of the opening half.

A minute later, a free throw by Faye had the deficit down to two. Still trailing by just three at 26-23 on a layup by Kisean Robinson, the Broncbusters extended the lead back out to 14 over the next several minutes using a 17-6 run.

The final 1:18 belonged to PCC, as the Beavers capped the final minute and change on a 7-1 run to pull to within five. Justin Robinson converted a three-point play, Kisean Robinson added a free throw before Vaughn closed the half with a triple sending the teams into halftime with GCC holding the 44-39 advantage.

Vaughn continued the second half just like how he finished the first half, dialing long distance just over a minute in to cut the deficit to three. Just over five minutes in, Vaughn hit another long ball that had the Beavers as close as they had been at 51-50.

GCC went on a 7-0 run over the next two-plus minutes to push the lead back to eight at 58-50.

In what was a theme all game, the Beavers would get back to within a few points as Galvin Luketa's three-pointer near the midway point of the second half had the deficit back to three at 61-58.

With 7:29 to play, a Kisean Robinson layup pulled the Beavers within four at 67-63, but that would be as close as they would get the rest of the way. GCC pushed the lead back out to nine and following a free throw by Izeyah Harris with five minutes to play had PCC as close as six, the Broncbusters closed the game on a 13-9 run to claim the 85-75 victory.

In addition to the big games from Faye and Vaughn, Kisean Robinson and Luketa added nine points apiece. Muna Godswill went for eight points and 11 rebounds.

Zaire Lott and Jordon Nevill paced GCC with 15 points apiece. Devonte Reed added 12 points and Xavier Johnson rounded out the four in double-figures with 11 points.

PCC will return home to host Butler CC this coming Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. inside the Beaver Dome.
