Baseball hangs tough against #4 Johnson County in four-game series
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Pratt Community College Baseball team stayed right with #4 Johnson County Community College over a four-game series on the road. Although the Cavaliers won all four games, the Beavers were right in three games that went down to the wire. Johnson County won by scores of 10-7, 12-11, 3-2 and 12-0.
In the first game, PCC held the 5-0 lead after the top of the third. Still ahead 6-2 after the top of the fourth, JCC responded with three in the fourth and five in the fifth to claim the 10-7 win. Colby Gomez paced the Beavers going 2-4 with three RBI, including a home run. Jabin Moore added a solo home run. Oen Schmidt added the other RBI. On the mound, Sutter Balog was solid over the first three innings, getting the no decision allowing just two earned runs, while punching out seven.
In the second game, the teams went back-and-forth before JCC escaped with the 12-11 victory in nine innings. PCC fought back to tie the game at three with a three-spot in the second. Then trailing 8-4 after four, the Beavers rallied with two in the sixth, one in the seventh and three in the eighth to tie the game at 10. JCC reclaimed the lead with a run in the home half of the eighth, before PCC extended the game with a run in the ninth. The Cavaliers posted the walk-off hit in the ninth for the 12-11 victory.
PCC tallied 11 hits with Eli Patrick and Nate Lodewyks leading the way with three-hit games. Lodewyks hit a pair of solo home runs. Johran Porter added a pair of RBI. On the mound, Jackson Feggi was strong in relief, going three innings and allowing just two earned runs.
Game three was a pitcher's dual as the teams played a tight 3-2 decision that went to the Cavaliers. PCC scored the first two runs of the game, plating a run each in the third and fourth innings. JCC came all the way back in the sixth, scoring three runs to take the victory.
Patrick had a pair of hits, while Gomez and Porter each had an RBI. On the mound, Oswaldo Wilson started and went the first 5.1 innings, allowing just three earned runs with four strikeouts. Hunter Mitchell tossed two-thirds of scoreless work in relief.
In the series finale, JCC started early with six runs over the first two innings on their way to claiming the 12-0 victory.
PCC was limited to just two hits from Schmidt and Lodewyks. On the mound, Greyson Lorton worked a scoreless inning of relief with a pair of strikeouts. Laken Kelley added two-thirds of scoreless relief.
