Pratt is playing host to the KJCCC Tennis tournament. After the first day of the tournament, the Beavers are in very good shape! The two teams combined reached 13 of the potential 18 championship matches. These matches will take place tomorrow, April 22.
The Men's team reached 5 of the 6 championship matches possible. Daniel Blinov managed a win at #1 singles (7-5, 5-7, 6-2) against Barton Community College. Sam Dinneen won his match at #3 singles (6-4, 7-6(5)) against Cowley College. Kenta Kawada also found victory against a Barton opponent (6-3, 6-4). Tiaan Clark Nelson defeated Seward (6-0, 6-2), and Edward Westfall rounded out the singles play for Pratt with a strong win vs Seward (6-0, 6-0).
In the Doubles, Pratt saw more success with 2 of the 3 doubles pairings advancing to the finals. Kenneth Rabinad Vila and Sam Dinneen advanced when their opponents from Barton retired from the match during the 3rd set (6-7(11), 7-6(5), 3-0 ret.). Kenta Kawada and Thiofhi Tshivhase also won their match vs Barton (6-4, 6-4).
On the Women's side, the Beavers will be featured in 4 of the possible 6 singles championship matches tomorrow. Ilse Smaalders advanced at #3 singles after her win vs Cowley College (6-1, 6-4). Sandra Rodriguez had a great come from behind victory against Barton (1-6, 6-4, 6-4) at #4 singles. Barbara Mattar, who was playing #5 singles, beat her opponent from Seward (6-0, 6-4) to advance to the final and Alyse Zimmerman will also play for a championship at the #6 position after her victory (6-3, 6-2) over Barton.
On the Doubles court, the Lady Beavers advanced to the finals in 2 of the possible 3 flights. Emma Guzman and Ebonie Russell won their match at #2 doubles (4-6, 6-2, 7-5) against Cowley College. Alyse Zimmerman and Barbara Mattar also managed to win at #3 doubles (6-1, 6-3) against Barton.
Both teams will be competing tomorrow with the hopes of taking home the Conference Tournament Championship plaque.
