The Beaver Wrestling Team continued their season at the Younes Hospitality Open in Kearney, Nebraska at the Kearney SportsPlex on November 22nd.
The Beavers had 18 Individuals competing, with 7 Top Performances & Placements.
Top Performances included Jacob Goodwin at 157 lbs. He finished the tournament 5-1 reaching the NCAA 6 Match Limit Rule which only allows a wrestler to compete in 6 Matches a day.
Drew Withington at 184 lbs. and Preston Hagel at 197 lbs. finished their day with a 6th place finish. Both would have to forfeit their Placement Match due to the NCAA 6 Match Limit Rule.
Zane Donley at 125 lbs., Matt Long at 133 lbs., and Sebastian Lopez at Heavyweight finished with taking 3rd Place. Donley and Lopez both made the Semi Final before dropping close matches and battling back in the Consolation Bracket. Long dropped his Quarter Final match, to the eventual Champion and #3 Ranked NJCAA Wrestler with a score of 4-3, before making a run to 3rd Place.
Gabriel Sherrell captured the Younes Hospitality Open 125 lbs. Title with 24-12 Decision in the Final over Parker Leverknight of Briar Cliff University. Sherrell collected 2 Technical Falls and 1 Pin on his way to the Quarter Final. In the Quarter Final, Sherrell avenged a loss from last week's Grand View Open with a 19-4 Technical Fall over Brandon Baustert of Southeast Community College. In the Semi Final, Sherrell was able to overcome an early deficit to defeat Canaan Brummett of Cowley College with a 14-5 Major Decision.
The Beavers will continue their season on December 7th where they will compete at the Bob Smith Open hosted by Fort Hays State in Hays, Kansas at Gross Coliseum.
