Softball opens home portion of schedule with two setbacks against Mavericks
[Pratt, KS-Feb 11th, 2026] – The Pratt Community College softball team opened the home portion of the 2026 season on Wednesday when they faced Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa at Angood Field.
Game One:
The Mavericks used a strong pitching effort to claim game one, 4-1, and then put together some big hits in game two for the 7-0 win to take both games of the doubleheader.
In game one, NOC-T (4-2) plated a run in the second and two more in the third, all unearned, for the 3-0 lead. They added another run in the sixth before PCC (0-4) got on the board in the seventh. Alyssa Montez hit a one-out double and then came home on an RBI single by Kennadie Arevalo to provide the final score of 4-1.
Arevalo paced the Beavers going 3-3. In the circle, Karlie Johnson started and took the loss, allowing three unearned runs in five innings of work. Blair Shipman went the final two innings and allowed one earned run. The Mavericks received a strong performance from Adisyn Peetoom in the circle, as she tossed a complete game, 11 strikeout performance.
Game Two:
In game two, NOC-T pieced together three runs over the second, third and fourth innings to move in front 3-0. The Beavers threatened in several innings, putting two on in the first with singles by Samantha Castillo and Montez, but couldn't plate a run. In the second inning, Jaidyn Marshall started a two-out rally with a single and then stole second. Loren Walker drew a walk, before a fly out ended the threat.
With the game still 3-0 in the seventh, the Mavericks put the game out of reach with a grand slam for the 7-0 lead and eventual win.
Six Beavers accounted for the six hits, while in the circle, Montez started and took the loss, going three innings and allowing two runs (one earned). Jasmine Reyes went the final four innings, allowing five earned runs.
PCC will have a quick turnaround, as they will travel to Dennison, Texas for a four-game tournament beginning at 1 p.m. on Thursday against Vernon College.
