Beavers Season Ends in Loss to Hutch - Cameron Cox
[Hutchinson, KS-Feb 26th, 2026] - Men's Basketball was on the road against Hutchinson for the last conference game. The Beavers would play an ultra competitive game in the second half on Saturday evening but the cold start in the first half would prove to be too much as they fell to Hutch 76-63.
Game Recap:
Pratt (7-22), (4-20) started off the game freezing cold with Hutch (14-15), (9-14) gaining an early 12-2 lead. Pratt would answer with a few buckets of their own making it a 17-6 game early on. Hutch extended their lead by getting hot on offense making the score 29-13.
The following three minutes saw Hutch take control over the game jumping out to a 35-16 lead early. The Blue Dragons kept extending their led with turnovers being an issue for the Beavers. The damage would persist as the Beavers fell behind by 18 points 37-19 at the break.
The second half saw the Beavers start cold as the Blue Dragons held a 48-23 lead at the first media timeout. Pratt would trade shots back and forth with Hutch for the whole second half outscoring the Blue Dragons 44-39. However the 37-19 deficit was something the Beavers never recovered from. The Beavers would go on to lose 76-63 despite a valiant second half effort.
This loss elimates the Beavers from the conference tourney and ends their season. Colby picked up wins against Fort Hays Tech and Garden City in their past two games to secure the final tournament spot.
