Beavers Fall Short vs Butler

Pratt, KS - November 25, 2025 - On Tuesday the Pratt Community College Men's Basketball Program, 3-4 (0-2) played host to the Butler Community College Grizzlies, 5-3 (1-1). 

The game started out slowly with no points being scored for the first minute and 20 seconds. The scoring was finally opened by Butler's Devin Kerr.  Muna Godswill responded on the next possession with a big dunk. The first half would continue with a back and forth stretch of runs seeing the Grizzlies take a slim 9-8 lead intothe first media timeout at 15:43 left in the first half. A 3-point field goal by Hunter Vaughn gave the Beavers their first lead, 11-9, with 13:46 left in the first half. The game would go back and forth for the next few minutes and at the next media time out, the Beavers led 21-20 with 10:08 on the clock. The game would continue to be close, and at the 7:34 media timeout, the Beavers had only managed to extend their lead by 1 point, 28-26. The Grizzlies would slowly pull away throughout the end of the half, but the Beavers demonstrated their grit as Kisean Robinson threw down a massive dunk to end the first half. This would give the Beavers some momentum going into the locker room despite trailing 39-49. Hunter Vaughn, Galvin Luketa, and Seydina Faye led the team in scoring, rebounding and assists respectively in the first half.  Hunter Vaughn scored 9 points. Galvin Luketa grabbed 4 rebounds. Seydina Faye had 3 assists. It was a great team half with all 10 of the players who saw playing time contributing on the scoreboard.  

The second half continued to be hard fought by both teams. The lead remained at 10, 49-59, 4 minutes into the second half. The score differential would survive to the 10:31 mark, where the Grizzlies led the Beavers 67-77. Ajieth "AJ" Akot was fouled on a dunk attempt and managed to make 1 of 2 free throws to cut the lead to 9. 2 more free throws were added later by Kisean Robinson to cut the lead to 7. A few possessions later, Robinson knocked down a 3 to make the score 73-77 in favor of the Grizzlies. Butler's Xavier Brown would answer back to recreate the Grizzlies' 7-point lead. At the 7:38 media timeout, the score was 73-80 in favor of Butler.  The teams traded buckets coming out of the timeout, but back-to-back buckets from Pratt cut the Grizzlies lead to two with 6 minutes remaining, 82-84. The teams would play even over the next few minutes. The Grizzlies led 89-91 with 3:19 remaining in the second half, when AJ Pierre-Jerome was fouled and went to the free throw line. He made 0 of his 2 attempts. Butler was able to score on their next possession though and extended their lead to 5. The Beavers cut the lead to 3 at one point but were never able to come closer than that. Butler escaped with the 91-98 victory.  

Standout performances for the Beavers include Hunter Vaughn who scored 23 points on only 12 shots. Seydina Faye was the team's second leading scorer with 14 points while adding 7 rebounds and 5 assists.  

The Beavers will be in action next on Saturday as they travel to play Independence Community College.
