Pratt, Kan. - The Pratt Community College (PCC) Rocket League team traveled to Kanas City, Kan. on Sunday, September 28 to participate in the Stateline Showdown hosted by the Kansas City Pioneers a professional esports organization. The tournament took place at the Kansas Speedway outside the grandstands before the Hollywood Casino 400 took place.
The Beavers entered the tournament as the seventh seed and faced off against Moberly Area Community College (MACC) the tenth seed. Pratt won match one 2-0 and then faced the second seeded Wichita State University (WSU) Shockers in the winner’s quarterfinals and lost in a close matchup 2-0.
Due to the race starting, matches moved online with twelve teams remaining in the double-elimination tournament. In the second round of the losers' bracket, the Beavers faced the fifth seeded WSU White and Spade team and won 2-0. In the third round of the losers' bracket Pratt faced the sixth seeded Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) and ended their tournament run with a top eight finish with a 2-1 loss.
“We were seeded well in the tournament and were able to open the tournament against a familiar opponent which helped us build some confidence in an uncontrollable environment,” said head esports coach Charles Keefer. “It was a fun event in an environment not built for an esports event, but incredibly proud of our team for adapting and playing well.”
