Pratt Community College's baseball program opened its season on Monday, February 2. They played a doubleheader against McPherson College's JV program. The Beavers dominated the day going 2-0 with a combined score of 17-4.
The first game featured Laken Kelley on the mound, picking up the win. He pitched 4 innings with no earned runs and 4 strikeouts. Jabin Moore was the biggest standout hitter going 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and a run scored himself. Owen Schmidt also had a good day at the plate with a hit and a walk in his 3 at-bats, 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Lucas Verhoeven also pitched 1 inning and recorded 2 strikeouts without allowing a hit or an earned run. The Beavers won this game 11-4.
The second game was a shutout performance for the Beaver pitching staff. Owen Schmidt started the game and recorded 8 strikeouts in 4 innings pitched while only allowing 3 base runners (2 hits and 1 walk). Kyler Brecheisen and Vincent Bouchard combined for the final 3 innings with no earned runs from either pitcher. Tyler Jeffries was a standout at the plate with 2 RBIs while recording 2 hits in his 3 plate appearances. The final score was 6-0 in this game.
The Beavers will be back in action on Thursday, February 5 as they play host to Fort Scott Community College. The first pitch will be at 1pm at Stanion Field.
