Pratt Community College men's basketball battled Barton Community College in Great Bend, Kan. The Beavers and the Cougars clashed in a tightly contested game that saw neither team gain an edge. Barton broke through the deadlock with a late run to take the win. PCC loses to Barton 79-107.
The Beavers started the game strong by taking an eight point lead. Barton clawed back to take the lead with seven minutes in the half. Both teams went back and forth for the remainder of the first half with four ties and six lead changes. Going into the locker room at half it was Pratt with the 45-44 lead thanks to a three pointer by Kolby Holmberg.
The second half continued the back and forth pace between the Beavers and the Cougars. A quick 11 point run by Barton's Kawanise Wilkins broke the stalemate at the midpoint of the second half. With the edge, Barton managed to hold off the Blue and White's offense and secured the win.
Several players stepped up for the Beavers against Barton. James Brooks finished with 14 points, five rebounds and two assists. Dawson Gunter also broke into double digit scoring with 12 points, eight assists, four rebounds and a steal. Holmberg led the bench in scoring with 11 points.
Player of the game goes to Pratt's Asem Johnson. Johnson led all scorers with 24 points. He completed the double-double with 18 rebounds, four steals and two assists.
PCC rounds out the two game road trip traveling to Arkansas City to face Cowley Community College on Jan. 10. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
