Pratt Community College men's basketball tipped of the New Year by hosting Butler Community College in the Dennis Lesh Sports Arena on Jan. 3. High scoring offense was showcased by both teams as the Beavers battled Butler in the Beaver Dome. In the end, it was Butler who came away with the win. PCC falls 107-128.
Butler started the game on a quick run. The Blue and White countered and tied Butler at 14-14 at the 15 minute mark thanks to a Dawson Gunter 3 pointer. Pratt and Butler battled for the remainder of the first half. A small run by Butler at the end of the half sent the Beavers into the locker room trailing 42-52.
The Blue and White tried to chip away at the deficit, but Butler effectively used the 10 point cushion to their advantage. Pratt matched Butler's offensive pace, but the Grizzlies used eight second half three pointers to keep the Beavers at bay and come away from the Beaver Dome with the win.
Asem Johnson continued his strong play in the post for the Blue and White against Butler. He finished the game with 20 points, 15 rebounds, two assists and a steal. Gunter came off the bench to lead the Beavers in scoring with 21 points, three assists and a steal. Pratt saw points coming from several players as AJ Banks, Jaylon Wilson, Kolby Holmberg, and Clinton Bentley all finished in double digit scoring. Player of the game goes to Butler's Jared Armstrong who used six three pointers to lead all scorers with 33 points.
PCC men's basketball looks to bounce back on the road against Baron Community College on Jan. 6. Tip-off for the game in Great Bend, Kan. is set for 7:30 p.m.
